Easy Installation, Heat Dissipation, Impact Resistance
Installation is a cinch, remove the casing, plug the connectors, secure the drive, close it up and plug it in. The metallic aluminum casing is good for resisting minor impacts and also serves to disapate heat away from hot hard drives.
Connectivity
The HardBox comes with both a USB 2.0, (2) IEEE 1394b, and (1) IEEE 1394 ports. Quickly supports both "hot swap" and "plug & play" on both Mac OSX and Windows. Allowing you to backup your data quickly, reliably and then offers the compatiability to use it with multiple operating systems.
Transfer files between Windows and OSX
The unit can be plugged into any OSX based Macintosh and Windows based computer.
If you need to transfer data with a Windows XP, 2000, ME computer you'll be glad to know that the unit is instantly detected and requires no drivers. If you wish to have windows machines write to the hard drive you will have to format the drive in a windows compatible file system.
Mac Mini and Powerbook Performance Boost
All powerbooks come standard with a 2.5" hard drive. 2.5" drives typically spin betweenn 4200rpms and 5400rpms, while a typical 3.5" hard drive spins at 7200 rpms which allows for a performance boost. OSX offers a feature to boot from an external FireWire hard drive. Using this enclosure, which uses a 3.5" hard drive, you get the performance gains of a large drive. You also don't have to throw away the internal 2.5" drive, you can still use it to store data if you want to.
